It’s fair to say The Posh have lost some crucial players during the summer. I don’t think it’s unfair to say that many fans are apprehensive about securing promotion this season, especially considering the strength of other teams in the Division.
Hey Big Spenders:
Newcomers Birmingham City have got to work spending the Tom Brady money, already racking up £10m in transfer spend, with the likes of Alfie May and Ryan Allsop joining the Bluenose ranks. Rotherham, under new boss Steve Evans have also tested the durability of their printers, inking the contacts of 12 new players, including ex Posh skipper Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Clarke-Harris isn’t the only departure this season though, as the Posh have also bid adieu to their entire back 4, as Josh Knight, Ronnie Edwards and Skipper Harrison Burrows have joined Hannover, Southampton Sheffield United respectively, to name but a few. But with the loss of key players comes potential promise. Fuchs and Knight, both big earners, potentially lessens the weight of the wage bill, while transfer fees gained mean if nothing else, that Posh’s business in the window is unlikely finished.
The Next Big Thing(s)?:
George Nevett signs with great acclaim from Rochdale fans and on the face of it, looks to be a fantastic bit of business. While there is a clear need for an experienced CB in the club, George looks great for the future and could be a starter come 10th August.
Rio Adebisi comes in as the likely Burrows successor, although he has the ability to play at Right Back too, so if James Donnelly isn’t quite ready to be a first team regular, Adebisi provides flexibility at the back.
Malik Mothersille showed last season, albeit briefly, that he has potential to lead the line for The Posh. Technically good with his feet, not only can he beat his man, but he can beat the keeper too. But his lack of experience could prove costly should he start the season as the preferred option, ahead of Ricky-Jade Jones, who I expect to see more time on the wings this season. In my opinion. the club is crying out for a real out-and-out goal scorer, akin to that lost in Clarke-Harris, although I feel this is much less a priority than positions already mentioned.

Abraham Odah looks like your typical Posh Winger. Skilful and quick, he will undoubtedly score with both feet and it won’t be long until the London Road End is singing their name. Chris Conn-Clarke also looks like a great player, although it’s difficult to see where they will play given the strength of the attacking options at the club.
The Mainstays:
Somewhat surprisingly, The Posh have managed to keep a hold of several of our key players from last season. Kwame Poku , Joel Randall ,and Hector Kyprianou (who in my opinion should be new the Captain), all look set to start the season in PE2.
Securing a two year deal for Jed Steer is crucial and if nothing else, a statement made by the managing team. Too long has Posh focused solely on the outfield and neglected the goalkeeping position. Experience in goal is key to an organised defence, and Jed’s wealth of knowledge will if nothing else, aid and nurture the development of the young defenders in front of him.
Season Prediction:
Unfortunately, I see The Posh just missing out on Play-Offs; but many said this last season and look what happened there.
